Replenish Your Inner Energy

Life is simply a series of seconds strung together until they become minutes, then hours, days, weeks, months, years, and a lifetime. But when we forget to stay in the present – to press that play button instead of rewinding to what has already passed or fast forwarding to what might happen in the future – we lose track of our lives. Staying in the present moment, instead of backtracking to the past or skipping to the future, allows us the power to enjoy the life we’re actually living and also to avoid the sense of anxiety or feeling rattled that usually accompanies mental time travel.

The average person lives for nearly 2.5 billion seconds. It’s a lot to keep track of, right?

How we live those seconds becomes how we live our life. By practicing paying attention to the moment – whether that’s through focus on an immediate anchor or counting things to be grateful for on the spot – we get to experience our life more fully, with improved resistance to stress, better physical and mental health, and more satisfying relationships, both with ourselves and others.

The micro-interventions and longer mindfulness exercises we’re sharing in this training help you turn off auto-pilot and disable the rewind and fast-forward buttons, giving you greater agency over your response to literally anything.

Practice

Especially during times of stress, we tend to look outside ourselves for comfort and security. This practice cultivates an awareness of the internal resources we always have on hand to soothe ourselves and recharge our batteries.

FOR REFLECTION: How do you want to show up in your life? What do you want your seconds to look like?
